Paradigm Foundation is proud to support Chilterns MS Centre

The Paradigm Foundation is proud to be supporting the fantastic work of the Chilterns MS Centre with a £5,000 grant to help with running costs.

The therapy centre in Wendover is a lifeline for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their families – offering regular treatment and support to help them live the best life they can.  This long-term treatment is not available on the NHS.

Lois lives in Aylesbury and has been supported by the charity for more than 20 years. She said: “I was diagnosed with MS in 1995, when the MS Centre was just a small building. I received so much good advice that stopped me being afraid. The fantastic new building is full of really friendly staff and brilliant volunteers, and is a very upbeat and cheery place to go. I have tried hydrotherapy, reflexology, lymphatic drainage and excellent physio. We are so lucky to have this wonderful place on our doorstep.”

Robert Breakwell, the charity’s Chief Executive, commented: “The tremendous £5,000 grant we received from the Paradigm Foundation is helping us to offer a wide range of services that make it easier for people to cope with a distressing and disabling condition that usually gets worse over time. Lois is just one example of how members and their families give back to our charity by supporting community fundraising events such as the Walk the MS Mile. But we still need grants like this award from Paradigm Foundation to help us meet the £1.2million costs of running our therapy centre each year.”

In the last six months, the team of therapists at the Centre has provided an amazing 2,244 individual physiotherapy treatments, 1,629 places in special exercise classes, 226 hours of hydrotherapy, 78 occupational therapy sessions and 606 complementary treatments such as acupuncture, mindfulness and massage. Also offered are courses such as Falls Prevention, Fatigue Management and Empower, a course for newly diagnosed people. The Centre gives people with MS a chance to get together socially and also supports their carers and family members with advice, counselling and muscular-skeletal therapy.
